Merlyn Klaus Leaving WOWT

Merlyn Klaus, courtesy of WOWTVeteran sports anchor and reporter Merlyn Klaus is leaving WOWT (Cox Channel 8) to take a position at The Steier Group, an Omaha-based development consulting company that specializes in serving non-profit organizations.

"I've been in the TV news business for nearly 30 years and it's time for a change," Klaus said.

His last day at WOWT is Jan. 5.

An award-winning sports journalist at WOWT since 1984, Klaus began his broadcast career at WLS (ABC) in Chicago in 1977. His first job in Nebraska was at KDUH (ABC) in Scottsbluff, where he handled news, weather and sports reporting. He later worked as sports director at KHGI (ABC) in Kearney, before coming to Omaha.

Klaus is the latest of several former Omaha TV personalities who have gone to work for The Steier Group. The list includes John Glenn (KMTV), Rich Roberts (KMTV), Sean McMahon (KETV) and Tom Elser (KETV).

Perhaps dealing with those drunken dolts was the last straw. He will be missed.

I'd probably leave a station too when they let some Husker fanboy with a website pose as a sports reporter a couple of times a week. What a joke.

Damn it! Now I won't be able to imagine him prancing around the studio in laederhosen.

I just love this guy's name, Merlyn Klaus...(say it in a thick German accent...)

Awesome.

I hate to see such a good guy like Merlyn hang it up. He's a true professional.

Also, I'm not sure if the the anonymous poster above knows this, but it was Merlyn's idea to bring Sean Callahan on WOWT two seasons ago. I work at six and I know they are very happy with what he brings to their station on the Husker coverage. You sound to me like an upset guy that just hasn't made it in the business.

I know both Sean and Merlyn -- Sean breaks as many Husker stories as the OWH and Journal Star combined. Sounds like somebody is jealous of Sean

Actually sounds like Merlyn or none of those other guys want to make the effort to file a midweek story.
