KFAB talk show host Tom Becka is the grand marshal of the first ever "Ringing in the O!" Salvation Army Bell Ringing Marathon.
The 36-hour marathon kicks off Friday, Dec. 15 at 11 a.m. at three locations: Nebraska Furniture Mart and Wal-Mart stores at 12850 L Street and 6304 N. 99 Street.
The media, local business leaders, and volunteers will begin the marathon at Nebraska Furniture Mart's Appliance and Electronics Store. Omaha's O! Campaign with Army representatives will highlight the great need in the community and how the partnership hopes to help meet that need. The marathon runs through the night at two local 24-hour Wal-Marts and concludes on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 11 p.m.
The Salvation Army's Tree of Lights Campaign kicked off Nov. 17 with the annual lighting of the new Tree of Lights on the corner of 90th and Dodge Streets. The campaign runs through Dec. 23. Ringing in the O! volunteers are still needed. To sign up, call Greg Kadrlik at 898-5936 or visit www.ringbells.org.
