Merlyn Klaus Returns To WOWT

After a brief move into the world of public relations and development, Merlyn Klaus is back working at WOWT (Cox Channel 8).

"The people at The Steier Group are great and I can't say enough good things about them, but it just wasn't a fit at this point in my life," Klaus said of his brief time at The Steier Group.

Klaus' old job as sports reporter and anchor was still open, so the transition back to WOWT on Tuesday was seamless, he said.

"I will hit the ground running with all the high school and college basketball coming up in the next few weeks," he said.

Thats good news. Merlyn is a class act.

Why am I picturing Dave Webber begging Merlin back in some sort of "Jerry Maguire"-like scenario?

"You had me at hello, Dave." It brings a tear to my eye just thinking about it.

Ano 8:27 - Dave realized he actually had to work with Merlin gone.

Merlin seems to be a pretty level-headed guy, so good to see him back.

Sean,
On a different note - you mentioned Tracy Jacim announced her leaving 42, but not until the end of the month. That doesn't seem to the norm (other than Pat Persuad's extended fairwell tour) when you tune in one day and see the anchor(s) gone, which seems to be the way stations work.

Any inside story as to why the lengthy transition? Just wondering...

I hope Merlyn got a BIG raise, he deserves it! He's the best sports guy Channel 6 has - I like his style.

The reason why Tracy isn't leaving until then is because it's sweeps. She has wanted to leave since her husband (a former reporter at KPTM) got fired about a year ago, and she doesn't really mesh well there. I'm sure a deal was made that she would stay through the end of sweeps and she probably announced it early in an attempt to get more viewers to tune in.

That was quick. But I'm glad Mer is back!

A Leoppard can't change his spots. Merlyn loves sportscasting, and he is one of the few cogs (along with Ross Jernstrom) in the Channel Sux sports machine that actually works well. Welcome back.

wouldn't it be weird to change an anchor mid sweeps?

KPTM should start its own website, one where the comment section wouldn't be continuously knocked off by an arbitrator.

I agree with the above, so hopefully Sean won't pull MY comments.

I work with Tracy and I think she's handled her situation pretty well. It's been hard for any one of us to "mesh" at 42. After all, we go through News Directors faster than Anna Nicole changed sex partners. As a photographer, our failing equipment keeps getting patched without any hope of replacing, and there's more talk about going to one-man banding. If anything, I believe Tracy just wants to get to a better spot. As do the rest of us!

One side note: Tracy's husband hires me to freelance now and then at the convention center, and he seems happy enough at his new job. So I just think Tracy's lengthy departure is probably a win-win for her and 42 management. They get a ratings boost and she gets more time to look.
