'Power 106.9' Commercial-Free Until Monday

KCTY KCTY's relaunch as "Power 106.9, Today's Hottest Jamz" means the station will run commercial-free until Monday.

The urban format station will be programmed by Bryant McCain, who is known as "Bizzy B" on the air.

NRG Media Operations Manager Mark Todd said the growth of urban radio is a trend across the country.

"We see a great opportunity for the radio station and its format in this market and it fits perfectly within the strategic alignment of our NRG Media stations," Todd said.

You can tell it's going to be good because they spelled "Jams" with a z.

Don't you just love illiteracy, violence and substance abuse--the essence of hip hop?

To each one's own.

Again, some radio consultant just made big bucks by selling an idea to a local programmer that has the imagination of a turnip. No wonder local radio programming across the country is being put out of business by satellite.

I think this current phase of hip-hop is too much like 80's hair metal. Too glamorous, sensational and too little heart. I think it's about time for another revolution in music.

Are their really that many "popular" hip hop songs that they can play them non stop til monday. While 94.1 is more CHR they do play more rap and hip hop songs than other stations in Omaha and their playlist is tiny. The sad part is that 94.1 even adds some regular pop and rock songs. However they still have a tiny playlist. Good luck 106.9.

I like the sound, but the format sucks big time. I hear the same songs over and over and over and over again....How many times can you listen to Justin Timberlake and Beyonce? Even my teenagers are turned off by the constant repeat of the same songs and style of music. There really needs to be a morning show or else they will lose their mature crowd. Russ Parr was the only thing keeping me attracted to 107.7. And what happened to the gospel sound on Sunday mornings?? They better do something quick, fast and in a hurry, or they won't have nothing.

The sound is ok still doesn't come in good all over Omaha. I agree they need Russ Parr back in the mornings, that is the main time I listen. I understand get moving for clarity, but why change the format of the shows, I think 106.9 should run the same as 107.7.
