WOWT (Cox Channel 8) is joining the ranks of Omaha TV stations which offer weather blogs.
Weekend meteorologist Jeff Jensen writes in the site's first post that he will initial handle most of the posting of information, which will appeal to a wide range of weather-savvy viewers.
"I'm going to try to aim towards the middle of this group on a regular basis here when talking about daily forecasting thoughts," Jensen writes. "The pros might find it simplistic at times while the hobbyists might not have a clue to what some of the maps I'll post mean. Don't worry about that. We'll try to link you up to sites that will help to explain some of the things I'll be referring to."
Viewers will have the opportunity to comment on posts, but all comments will be approved before being posted.
KETV (Cox Channel 9) weekend meteorologist John Campbell was the first Omaha TV meteorologist to publicly offer a weather blog. "Campbell's Corner" debuted last April.
KMTV (Cox Channel 5) meteorologists began blogging about the weather in November. According to page view statistics posted on its site, about 500 viewers visit it daily.

"Well that should be exciting," he said rather sarcastically.
Sean, thanks for working so hard to get the facts straight. In the City Weekly this week, Jim Minge reported that KPTM's Dean Wyzocki (spelling?) is doing a weather blog. HOW LONG has Dean worked at KM3 now? Flippin' ridiculous. Plus the article quoted Roseanne Shannon over and over, and a WOWT source once, and that's it. Don't they at least TRY to report over there anymore?
Maybe WOWT can use the blog to get Jim Flowers to define "plowable snow"
Maybe they can use the space to explain why they're so non-commital on snow measurements until the first flakes start flying, but meanwhile brag to us about all the latest gadgets they have at their disposal.
Local weather guessers are a bunch of dorks - The Dean man on 3 is the only cool one that gets it (e.g - dressing up as that Steve dude, on Halloween on KPTM 42, that cost the Cubs the chance to go to the World Series.
I haven't heard ANYONE ever mention 'plowable snow' on TV in the past 2 years I've been in Omaha. Can you tell me where you saw this recently?
As to the snow, I guess being right over being first might be one reason. I've noticed your Ch.3 weatherguy go back & forth numerous times the last month or so when it snowed. Weatherfolks might be "dorks" but where does that place people who whine about the weather 24/7???
