KPTM Will Not Air OJ Simpson Special

KPTM (Cox Channel 10) viewers in the Omaha metropolitan area will not see what is being billed as one of the most anticipated TV interviews in America.

"KPTM and the entire group of Pappas' FOX stations will not be airing the OJ Simpson special," said KPTM Director of Promotion Sam Lawson Friday afternoon.

Simpson will appear in a two-part special on FOX on Nov. 27 to talk about his new book, "If I did it, This is How." The book is being marketed as a confession by the former football hero for the 1994 slayings of his wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman.

Simpson was charged for the murders of his wife and her friend but was acquitted. He was later ordered to pay costs about $33 million for the crimes in a civil trial.

The Simpson special will be broadcast on the third and second-to-last nights of Nielsen Media Research's November "sweeps" period.

The other FOX stations in the Pappas Telecasting group are: KMPH, Fresno, Calif.; KPTH, Dakota Dunes, S.D. and KSNB/KTVG, Lincoln.

All viewers in these areas of Fox coverage should contact their local Fox satations and commend them on their courage to keep the filth of this despicable sociopath off their airways.

Come on, Sean. Calling KSNB/KTVG a Lincoln station is stretching things just a bit. KSNB is licensed to Superior, KTVG is licensed to Grand Island. They DO have a dinky translator in downtown Lincoln, but if it's 1000 watts, it's lucky. I can barely get their signal at 84th & Hwy. 2. KPTM is the de facto Fox affiliate for Lincoln, NOT KSNB/KTVG.

The information on all the Pappas stations comes from the corporate website.

KSNB KTVG are only in those rinky dinky towns because the Lincoln and tricities markets are one instead of two like they should be. Its quite silly too becasue both 4 and 17 overlap in a decent area south of Grand Island. They also claim and serve part of northern Kansas in ANOTHER market. However their marketing does promote Lincoln, they have a Lincoln office and are on TWC. KSNB is in a town of less than 2000 so I cant understand why they would not move OTA to lincoln with 250,000. Mabey viewers and $$ is not their thing.

84th and hyway 2 is on the edge of town no wonder you can not get their translator signal. Plus KPTM has their tower in gretna at least 25 miles closer to lincoln than the studio in Omaha. Mabey their goal is actual coverage not KPTM OR KSNB/KTVG. 3 Fox stations is excessive for their high brow programs. lol

I have to say bravo to the folks at KPTM for choosing not to air that interview. They put class and decency above the almighty dollar (unlike the FOX network itself) and it was the right thing to do.

What I'm saying, Sean, is you should call Pappas on their BS. KSNB/KTVG is NOT a Lincoln station. Yes, it's in the Lincoln/Hastings/Kearney market, but let's get real. Lincoln and the Tri-Cities have little in common with each other, save for being in the same state. Everyone with any cursory knowledge of the TV markets in Nebraska knows that L/H/K was set up for the sole benefit of KOLN/KGIN and Fetzer back in the day.

I guess my rant doesn't really mean much to Pappas though, since they still own the de facto Fox affiliate for Lincoln.

I'll take my O.J. in a tall, cool glass, otherwise, I have no desire for it.

And please, don't buy the book.

First of all, who gives a crap about whether or not stations are in what towns? I'm sure Sean can find better things to do with his time.
Congrats to Pappas and their stations for doing the right thing. Not airing the special is definitely the right thing to do, which isn't something you normally see with Fox stations. I may actually watch more than two minutes of their show as appreciation for the their gesture.

Let the viewers decide with their remote controls. If they don't want to watch, don't watch!

In that case, we should be screaming at NBC for choosing to pass on the OJ Special. How dare they decide what they want to show on their own network!

Speaking of KPTM:

Looks like a new news director isn't the only thing they're going to be looking for..
