Cox Adding ESPNU Nov. 30;
ESPN2-HD Takes Place of KETV-HD

ESPNUCox Communications is adding three new channels to its lineup at the end of November, including the much-anticipated ESPNU.

ESPNU is ESPN's 24-hour college sports network. It will be seen on Cox Channel 220. Additionally, ESPN2 in high definition will be seen on Cox Channel 809. That is the same channel that previously broadcast KETV's high definition signal to Cox subscribers.

Earlier this week, Cox spokeswoman Kristin Peck told The Reader's Media Notes that negotiations between Cox and Hearst-Argyle (owner of KETV) have stalled. KETV pulled its signal from Cox Oct. 1 in a dispute over compensation for retransmission of KETV's HD signal.

"We are so far apart right now that I do not foresee a conclusion to this negotiation anytime soon," Peck said.

A&EThe other addition to Cox's digital lineup will be A&E in high definition, broadcasting on Cox Channel 807.

In all, Cox offers 13 HD channels to its Omaha metropolitan area customers, including KMTV, WOWT, KPTM, NET and HBO.

Will ESPNU be part of regular digital cable or in their extra sports tier?

This will give people in the Omaha area the opportunity to see the Lancers rebroadcasts when they are aired.

This will be part of their "sports" tier, which requires you to have a digital box.

Happy for Omaha but Lincoln gets hosed once again. We have that wonderful cable system known as Time Warner who constantly tries to screw us in innovative ways. We have about fifty shopping channels but yet we don't have NFL Network or ESPNU. We do have CSTV but so what. Sean, you should do a story on why Lincoln pays more for cable services yet receives less for our money. They certainly don't answer to the public.
