John Maher is the new publisher of the Lincoln Journal Star.Lee Enterprises appointed Maher to the post Friday. He will also be chief executive for Lee's Southeast Nebraska business unit, which includes the Journal Star, as well as daily papers and online products in Columbus, Beatrice and Fremont.
Maher replaces Bill Johnston, who left the newspaper in May after 10 years. Johnston is currently publisher at the Wisconsin State Journal in Madison.
Maher, 40, begins his new job Oct. 1.
